Shivas Irons Society
Kaleidoscope of the Society
2007 marked the 15th Anniversary of The Shivas Irons Society and Jo Crisp, head of members services, headed up a special quilt project for the Society's annual online auction which was completed in December. Here is the story of the quilt.

Creating a Masterpiece...

by Joretta Crisp

As a child growing up on the farm in the beautiful, bluegrass of Kentucky, I would often hear the phrase "he'd give you the shirt off his back." Such a high compliment was paid to those who were generous enough to help friends, neighbors, and strangers alike— while expecting nothing in return.

I am proud to say that my father was one of those men. Soon after his passing in 2001, my mother collected all of his "Sunday" shirts to donate them to a local charity. She found she could not do it, the memories of each were just too dear. So, one day, she sat down, and with scissors, thread, and a heart full of love, she began to create timeless masterpieces of memories for each of her children... quilts.

And now, my mother has created an exquisite, handmade quilt to commemorate this year's 15th Anniversary of the Shivas Irons Society. Created from pieces of fabric cut from shirts (or other items) donated by SIS members from around the world, this quilt is filled with golfing memories and represents the diversity of our organization. It is truly a beautiful kaleidoscope of our Society.

Thank you Mom!

In Memory...

The Society is greatly saddened by the loss of the creator of the 15th Anniversary Quilt, Rosemary Meredith.

Mary graciously shared her talents with the Society when she created a handmade quilt from our members' golf shirts. The quilt was auctioned in our 2007 Members Only Auction with the proceeds benefiting the Society's scholarship program for disadvantaged youth.

Mary is the mother of Jo Crisp, head of SIS member services.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Jo and her family.
