Over the last year or so, I have "hung out" at several of the websites dedicated to golf topics. I'm sure that most serve a useful purpose - for those who use them. These sites tend to be the outlet of choice for people to compare their collection of golf equipment, theories on the perfect golf outfit, expositions on this or that master golf teacher, and the finadaquacies of the USGA or R&A to keep up with the latest in technology. I have met many nice people on-line. I know that they love my game or choice for the same reasons that I love it. I just wish that there were more of them.
I hope that this forum will give a voice to the members of the golf community who expect more out of ourselves than an occasional 300 yard drive. I want to talk about the experience of golf. After 50 years of doing this game, I keep coming back inspite of, rather than because of, my physical prowess. My equipment, how I dress, and how I posture myself are woefully inadaquate by the standards that the golfing establishment seems to demand. But the golfers I want to associate with probably are as unimpressed by the current paradigm as I am. It is my hope that slowly, others who don't usually use electronic media like this one will begin to find a voice here. We are sheltered here from those who would find our ideas quaint or even irrelevant. Let's use this forum to begin to speak softly at first but with increasing regularity about that part of golf that most people haven't begun to grasp.
I am convinced that there is another way to see golf. I am convinced that there is another way to discuss our avocation. I hope that this is the place to share what might otherwise be misunderstood or misinterpretted. Here's to the success of this enterprise. |
