Thank you, thank you, thank you for the emails, comments here and on Facebook.. but mostly for joining me in this journey.
Steve pointed out I didn't explain why I'm tackling this book now. Well, its because of you.
When I first tried to read GITK back in 2005, life was too busy and I had not stepped onto a course to actually play the game. I'd just been with the Society for about 8 months and I had a beautiful 3 month old plus my two delightful and very busy older children.
Now, after almost 6 years behind this desk... I have a wonderful round of golf at Pasatiempo behind me and so many of you have shared the inspirational stories of your GITK discovery with me, that I think I'm ready.
Please don't expect me to fall in love with it. I already love it, for through it, I've made many amazing "connections".
The Basics of this Blog
I can promise I will be shooting straight from the hip with this blog. Everything will be MY opinion and my opinion only. Don't think because I say something, that it is coming from the Society... its not.
I encourage you to use the RSS Feed so that you can be automatically updated when I publish a new blog. You can do this by clicking here and selecting the delivery method you'd prefer.
Its also very quick for me to post quips and thoughts to the Society's Facebook page. I will preface those posts with Jo's Challenge. (You do not need a Facebook account to view posts, only to make comments.)
I really appreciate the your support and I will try to answer emails and comments in a timely matter!
Schedule for the Read
I flipped through the book that Michael signed for me at my first Society event in 2004... and woah!! Part Two might be slow going!
I remembered very quickly that GITK can be intimidating. The names of some of the chapters are... overpowering. You get the feeling that you are truly undertaking something you might not want to.
So my goal for next week is this:
Monday, May 3: Part One - Shivas Irons
Wednesday, May 4: Part One - Golf in the Kingdom
I think that will give us all quite a few topics to discuss for that week. Perhaps my deadline of May 24 was ambitious? I'll just enjoy the journey, with you.
Oh... and be sure to have a mint julep tomorrow. There is nothing like the horses, beautiful bluegrass, and bourbon to this Kentucky girl!
~Searching for Shivas,
Jo
