Hello my dear friends!
It hit me this week that it really is 2009! During the last few months of ’08 I prayed for it to be over on a daily basis, and here it is the end of February 2009 and I feel like I blinked and missed the first two months.
During 2008, my life, my world, my very heart was ripped into pieces with the passing of my two closest friends… my mother-in-law and my mother. These amazing women were my foundation, my strength and my cheering section. I took some much needed time off to spend in Kentucky with my family and returned to the office to an outpouring of love and support. Thank you, Shivians! You Rock!
Since November, I have been super busy with the Society’s Auction and Renewal Season (If you haven’t renewed, please do so here.) Those are two important parts of my job because it’s the backbone of the funding for the Society. It allows me to do all those “fun” things that makes this non-golfer love her job.
The 3 Things I Like Most About My Job:
1. Youth Scholarship Program
This program allows me to work with disadvantaged kids from the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation in Chicago, the East Lake Foundation in Atlanta, and the First Tee of Nashville. These kids are superb! To be accepted, they write an essay on why they want to attend golf camp. YOU, through your donations and support, send these kids to a one week summer camp at the Tennessee PGA Jr. Golf Academy in Franklin, TN. The scholarship includes tuition, travel, and other essentials that allow them to spend a week focusing on their game with the help of amazing professionals. Thank you Darnell at DMSF, Nyre at East Lake, Thelma at the First Tee, and especially Vikki at the Jr. Golf Academy. Also, to my dear Facebook friend, SIS advisory and charter member Jim Christain for going out and talking to the kids about the Society (I envy you!).
As a community… we make a difference in these children’s lives. Read more about the Youth Scholarship Program>>
2. The Anniversary Event
No matter the location, no matter how much work, no matter how tired I am at the end of the day, the Anniversary Party is one of the highlights of my year. There is nothing better than getting to have a face to face conversation with those who attend. Even if we’ve just met, it feels like we’ve known each other for years!
SAVE the DATE: Our 17th Anniversary is going to be at Bayonet on May 30.
3. I LOVE YOU!
There is no like about it. YOU are my favorite part of my job; getting to speak, email, communicate with you. There is nothing better, nothing I like more, nothing that compares. Whether its “Jo, I forgot my password” or “Jo, Do you know someone I can hook up with play a round with?” and especially those "Dear Misspelled Jo" emails. I LOVE talking to you… especially if I can help!
I’ve met some amazing people because of my job. People that I do not consider “job acquaintances”, but friends. And we meet in amazing and mystical ways. In the days that come, I will be blogging about some of these friends and sharing our story with you. So… if you haven’t renewed yet, visit our Golf Shop so that you don’t miss out. Who knows, I could be blogging about you!
