About Xander Dobreff

 Supporting a golf dream—

During the last week in August the Shivas Irons Society received a request from Alexander (Xander) Dobreff, a 22 year-old man in Illinois, who was seeking sponsorship to play in the North American One-Armed Golfer’s Association (NAOAGA) National Championship... A horrific automobile accident in July, 2009 had cost him the use of his left arm and it was his love of golf and his passion for the game that served a pivotal role in bringing him back from despair to a joyful life filled with excitement for the future.

The Shivas Irons Society is pleased to join with others and support Xander’s “dream” of playing in this prestigious tournament with a $700 financial grant from our “Golf Dream Fund” which was established to provide a transformational experience to a golfer, or member of a golfer’s family, in a time of medical, financial, or psychological need.

Came in 3rd in the qualifier. Did not play my best round, but I’m into the final, and my 3 iron saved the day again. I drew Allen Gentry’s name out of the hat. I wish that would not have happened.

Everything Breaks Toward the Rio Grande...

Posted: Monday, September 26, 2011

In the practice round today I did not score all that well. Although, I learned a lot about the course. There is a Mountain behind the course and the Rio Grande towards the other end of the city and everything breaks towards the Rio away from the Mountain peak. It took me 16 holes to figure out exactly how this was affecting my putts.

We are at 3,900 feet above sea level so I expect my ball to fly a little further than normal. I have some butterflies to get out onto the course. I can’t wait.
