Golf in the northern Scottish Highlands
Modified By Jo on 7/16/2008 4:16:30 PM)

I am visiting the far North in August.  I have played Royal Dornoch and Brora and plan to play Moray Old and others.  I would love to hear from other members of their course recommendations or experiences in this wonderful country.  It is the ultimate place to get away and the golf is sheer magic.  In true gravity......Bill Davison

Re: Golf in the northern Scottish Highlands

I just stumbled across Bill's comments and thought I would add a couple of my own. First, I have not had the pleasure of playing Royal Dornoch or any other courses in Scotland, for that matter (I await the next Shivas trip!!). However, I have played in Southwest Ireland and highly recommend the links of the Ole Sod!

Back to Royal Dornoch, for those who have played the course or just like a good read, I recommend "A Season In Dornoch' by Lorne Rubenstein. Lorne is a member at our club here in the Toronto area (www.coppinwood.com) and he and his wife spent three months in Dornoch several years ago and recorded the experience in wonderful and colourful detail. The book is readily available on Amazon.com!

Cheers,     David Currie
