Introducing Our New Look

Dear Member,
The Society has been diligently working for the last few months
to develop a new website that we hope will be informative, educate,
and engage our members and visitors.
Our goal is to have an ever evolving website with fresh content
in a user friendly space. While the new design is complete, content
is still be developed and the final touches put into place. However,
we want to invite you to log on and tour our new and improved
look.
Aside from the appearance, the primary difference of the site
is that your username is now your email
address.
Your password remains unchanged.
You will still be able to purchase quality SIS logo merchandise,
find a great book, register for events, renew your membership,
and much, much more. To ensure you receive your SIS member discount,
please login before you begin shopping.
We hope that you will take time to browse around, post to our
forum, and get reacquainted with the new website. Please remember
that this site is still a work in progress and changes will be
ongoing. We’d appreciate any feedback you would care to give us.
Comments and suggestions are always welcomed. If you encounter
any problems, please feel free to contact me.
~In true gravity,
Jo

The Q Tour™
SIS
members Diane Sickmen and Mitch Grashin have been cookin’ up this
fantasy for several years. After playing a course on park land
or adjacent to park land, they would often muse, “ Wouldn’t it
be great to compliment the round with a barbeque?”
Their musing evolved into the idea of The Q Tour™ — a series
of small outings on specific courses located next to barbeque
/ picnic areas and planning yummy menus. Well this is the year
the idea becomes reality. After all, if not now when?
They ran the concept past Steve Cohen, the President of the Shivas
Irons Society who had mentioned he would like to see more grass
roots “community events” that were accessible and affordable.
“What about smaller outings... getting to know you, getting to
know the Society affairs. Just a few foursomes gathering for fun,
camaraderie and of course True Gravity?” Steve asked.
We think The Q Tour™ fits the bill perfectly!
So here’s the scoop on the first outing.

-Erin Hills Golf Course-
"Playing the Game With All Your Heart"
SITE of the 2010 US AMATEUR
For four years, from 2001-2004, “Playing the Game with all Your
Heart” was presented by Midwest members at the Warren Golf Course
at Notre Dame. Each year the “Claret Jug” was engraved with the
name of the winning member* and kept on display at the Warren.
After a one-year hiatus in in 2005 we renewed the tradition at
the then brand new Erin Hills Golf Club—where we had the privilege
of hosting the first tournament ever played at this marvelous
venue. We are delighted and proud to know that Erin Hills will
support our tradition and keep the Claret Jug on permanent display.
This will be a Pro-Am tournament. Each attendee will be paired
(via a blind draw) with a competitor in Saturday's round at Royal
Birkdale in England. Always interesting and great fun!
$279 fee includes practice balls; Box lunch; eighteen holes of
golf (carts and caddies not included), BBQ dinner—Western Style
Pig Roast with Chicken and all the trimmings.

Florida Chapter Event

Shivas Irons Society Florida Chapter launched with gathering at
The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie.
On April 26th The Florida Chapter of the Shivas Irons Society
kicked off it's activities with a day of camaraderie and golf
at The PGA Golf Club. After an introduction of the Society by
Florida organizers Bob Sabin and Auke Hempenius and a few Shivas
inspired tips by PGA Golf Club GM Bob Baldassari the group enjoyed
18 holes of golf on the Pete Dye course. Given the links type
lay-out, the Dye course was a very appropriate venue for the SIS
Florida Chapter Charter event. Afterwards the group visited the
Historical museum for some Chivas Regal and expertly prepared
hors d'oeuvres. The entire group received the Shivas Journal,
the highly acclaimed periodical published by the Society.
The Florida chapter has plans to host several events throughout
the year and is in talks with LPGA International for a Shivas
Irons women's event and Sugerloaf Mountain for a Central Florida
Shivas Irons event.
Read Auke's blog about the day here.
