Shivas Iron Society
The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society

Golf's New Voice

The Journal is a unique, collector-quality publication. It is intended as a vehicle for all of the creative arts inspired by the game of golf, with contributions from outstanding writers, artists and photographers – new and renowned – from around the world.

In the tradition of the Society itself, The Journal offers thought-provoking editorial perspective on golf’s enduring themes that will add richness to every reader’s experience of the game. The Journal features content such as original and historical writing, commentary and criticism, and dialogues, profiles and interviews. Original and historical artworks to date include golf illustration, photography, memorabilia and cartoons.

Like the Shivas Irons Society, The Journal draws inspiration from Michael Murphy's classic novel Golf in the Kingdom. But just as the Society has forged its own identity with its contributions to the game of golf, The Journal offers a diversity of perspectives that can deepen readers' experience of the game.

“ Golf has a rich tradition in the essay form, as do baseball, boxing and fishing. But it’s hard to find articles that demand more of the reader. Into the breach, happily, comes a new publication that readers, who long for something to sink their eyes into will applaud.”

—Lorne Rubenstein, in The Globe and Mail, Canada’s National Newspaper.

“ I believe that ‘golf ’s new voice,’ as the Society calls The Journal, deserves to be heard… You will discover a rich vein of thought provoking content. If you’re like me, The Journal will deepen your appreciation for the game each time you read it.”

—Peter Jacobsen, PGA Tour

“ There is nothing else like it; for all who love this game, its tradition and virtues will truly enjoy The Journal. Share it with friends who mirror your passion for the game.”

—Laird Small The Director of Instruction at The Pebble Beach Golf Academy and 2003 PGA Teacher of the Year

“ Production values are absolutely first rate, with the look and feel of an expensive academic journal… The Journal is an unusual and worthy addition to the literature of the game.”
