If you are in the mood for a great golf adventure, some true Southern hospitality, and a wonderful time, join us in Chattanooga, Tennessee, one of the unknown homes of great golf architecture, with no less than four courses regarded as “must-see” for golfers.

We’ll start our day on Thursday, October 17, arriving at The Course at Sewanee, a 2013 redesign of the University of the South’s 9 hole course by Gil Hanse. After the first 9 we’ll check into the newly constructed Sewanee Inn, have lunch, and head down to “The Little Course That Could,” Sweetens Cove, in South Pittsburg. Thursday night we will spend back in the luxurious Sewanee Inn.

Then Friday morning we will drive 50 minutes to Lookout Mountain Golf Club, a 1925 Seth Raynor design restored in 1997. Described as “Fisher’s Island in the Sky,” this little known gem has breathtaking views, great strategic merit, and befuddling greens where gravity seems to have been suspended.

We’ll lunch at Lookout, and we will hear about the history of the courses we’ll be playing from local resident and SIS member Doug Stein, who was involved to some degree in all of these projects.

Friday night we will check into the Westin Hotel in downtown Chattanooga, right in the heart of Chattanooga’s bustling, progressive downtown. The 10th floor “Alchemy” sky bar offers a great place to regale one another with stories of strokes gained and lost.

Then Saturday we will play Black Creek Club, the course that reintroduced, 20 years ago, “Template Hole” to the golf vernacular. Built to present the modern player with the shot values of a C.B. Macdonald/ Seth Raynor design from the 1920’s, Black Creek has inspired many designs since its debut, including Bandon Dunes’ “Old Macdonald” and Arcadia Bluffs South. At Black Creek you’ll find modern interpretations of the Redan, Punchbowl, Biarritz, Maiden, Cape, and Short holes along with revisioned versions of Raynor-inspired golf.

If you've never been to Chatanooga, you are in for a treat. There's plenty to do for golfers and families alike. "Weather wise, this is one of the best golf weeks of the year in this part of the country!"

We are currently putting together pricing and setting up accommodations for this special little trip. If you are interested in joining, we are limiting attendance to 20 golfers so get your name on the list. Hope to see you there!
